January 31, 1988. Washington defeated Denver in Super Bowl XXII behind a historic performance by Doug Williams. The Washington quarterback set multiple records on his way to becoming the first African American quarterback to start and win a Super Bowl. The Burgundy & Gold scored 42 unanswered points in the win, including a record-breaking 35 points in the third quarter.
